After a grueling process, the theme “Some Squid Ink” finally got approved for sale at Theme Forest. Grueling because Theme Forest follow a strict set of standards when it comes to their stuff that goes for sale. The tricky part was to get the theme working on all major browsers, including the dreaded IE 6. The biggest downside in IE 6 is the lack of .png support which is used extensively in Some Squid Ink. Thanks to the people in Unit Interactive, whom I picked up the code and got the transparencies to work in order to get the theme up for sale – Whew!

Some Squid What?

I know, I know – what the hell I was thinking. For those of you who’ve been following my posts – my last developed theme was called “The Clam Shell”. The same reason why I picked Some Squid Ink: none whatsoever. The thing is when developing a “frame” for a website is – you know it’s going to get replaced anyways: the name I mean. So developers just come up with something catchy – I try to be funny. So what is the theme all about?

A Classic Approach

I drove away from complex features – since I am still a newby at this theme development thing, I had to keep it simple. Some Squid Ink (still makes me giggle when I type it) is a classic two column WordPress theme. It’s built for the classic blogger – primarily focused on content. Posts are staggered chronologically, sidebar with widgets and some banner advertisement abilities. Single posts have social networking buttons already built in, as well as gravatar support in the updated comment section which also holds the ability to multi-thread. Paginated posts, support for table styles and the ever so important – syntax highlighter (which is the container if you ever want to post something that shows code).

Wrapped the whole thing around this sleek and shiny “Web 2.0″ transparent casing – which I mentioned: gave me hell in IE 6! Added some lined page background in the top – added some sweet icons from WeFunction – and finally, gave it a funny name. View the demo, or purchase from this link. Some Squid Ink is for sale for $20.
